My new Flat, my Pad, my new online Digs are done! Well layout is done. But content will always be updated. I plan on keeping no less then a weekly posting schedule.
This has been a long time coming. I started this process about 6 weeks ago. I had several requirements for my new site:
In my search for the perfect solution I happened across both Ami Vitale’s, and Jack Gruber’s sites/blogs. I scoured them, looking at all their pages. And after some googling to see how their sites were built/hosted, found that they had the ability to do everything I required. And did not rely on flash, to boot!
The set up relies on 3 separate web companies to accomplish it’s task. Photoshelter, Wordpress, and Graph Paper Press. It takes a bit of setting up if you want more then a cookie cutter layout. Don’t get me wrong, the cookie cutter templates are nice! Very nice. But to stand out you really need to make a personal statement. This statement took me six weeks mainly because I was hacking my way through a crash course in CSS and PHP. Two of the web programing languages that the templates rely on. I am no master in them, for sure, but I learned enough to get the job done. And Graph Paper Press’s customer support forum was a huge help. Thanks Philip and Chandra!
The other main component that I wanted was a custom
logo. This is where my friend Shawn Skvarna, of Octoberson Design, comes in. He worked with me to create a cool logo that combines color, a great font and nice layout. The color choices for the site were mine, but Shawn really pushed me to reach beyond my “Color Comfort” zone. With my old site I had stayed with in the safe walls of gray-black & white. The use of color has really grown on me.
Thanks for visiting the new place. Take a look around, and make yourself at home. I hope to see you in the comments.
